Parenting Mike
Mike is a healthy fifteen year-old youth. In
Elementary school he loved socializing with his
friends, played hockey, soccer and guitar. He
was an excellent student and got A's in all his
subjects. Now in Grade eleven, he has flunked
three of his majors. Mike is moody and has an
erratic sleeping pattern. He doesn't eat breakfast
with the rest of the family, and refuse to tidy
his room. He spends most of his time in front
of the computer and listens to dark music.
Question: What is your response as a parent?
How will you approach Mike, and what do you think
needs changing?
Helping Candy to study
Candy is a student who does very well at school.
She knows all the fashion styles and visits for
hours on the telephone with her friends. She dances,
sings in the church choir and is a model student.
At home her room often looks as if a tornado as
been through it twice. Nothing is packed away.
She has a desk, but it is impossible to study
at the desk, as it is piled with CD's, clothes,
pictures, books and magazines.
Question: How do you perceive this situation?
If you have a problem with Candy, how will you

At work with Jo
Jo is in senior management in the Human Resources
Department of a middle size company. She is a
hard worker, likes to get things done and is efficient
in her job. However, she hates to repeat herself
to her team and gets easily irritated if she has
to explain in detail how the job is to be done.
Jo is friendly, but it is obvious that she doesn't
have a great desire to socialize with colleagues
or friends. She only goes to functions if she
has to, and then only under duress.

think the team will experience at work with Jo,
and how will you solve it?
Do you think Jo's job is a good fit for her?
